The camp staff is trained and certified in first aid, CPR, lifeguarding and all aspects of bike and canoe tripping. A qualified staff person who is at least twenty-one years old and has tripping experience on the chosen route leads each trip. At least one additional staff member accompanies each group, is at least eighteen years old, and is equally qualified.
Bike Trips
The group helps define routes and distances, which are finalized by the experienced camp staff, accounting for age, skill level, and group preferences. Trips begin and end at Camp White Eagle, looping through northwestern Illinois and southwestern Wisconsin. A support van, which follows the group at all times, carries the group’s food, personal gear, and group gear. The group, which stays at both public and private campgrounds, is in daily phone contact with camp. No experience is necessary. If you can ride a bike, you are experienced enough to go on our trips. Each day, riders ride at their own pace. More experienced riders go faster and farther. Less experienced riders ride slower and rest as needed.
Equipment
Camp provides eighteen-speed GT hybrid mountain bikes and helmets for all participants. Participants may choose to bring their own bikes, which must be pre-approved by camp staff.
Canoe Trips
Younger, less experienced groups canoe the Rock River, staying at public & private campgrounds. Older, more experienced groups canoe the lower Wisconsin River into the Mississippi River, staying on islands along the way. The group carries a cellular phone, with which it can keep in contact with camp at all times. Camp provides 17-foot aluminum canoes, ABS paddles, full life jackets, waterproof gear bags and transportation to and from the designated river.
